There are two different ways to get the results from your Edifixed references. You can either (i) copy the results to the clipboard and then paste them to the required destination, such as a Word file, or (ii) download the results in either a structured plain-text format (JATS XML, Medline, BibTeX, or RIS) or an HTML-formatted file (Word DOC or HTML).
To export your reference list, select the desired file format from the Export Format drop-down menu on your Edifixed References results page, then click Export. Depending on your browser’s settings, you may be asked to Open or Save the exported file, or the file may be automatically saved to your default downloads folder.
Note: RIS and MEDLINE format support only fully parsed (in other words, fully structured) references. References that have not been parsed and are shown in gray text will not be included in your exported RIS or MEDLINE files.
BibTeX
BibTeX, a portmanteau abbreviation of “bibliography” and “TeX,” is a reference management language most often used alongside the typesetting tool LaTeX. BibTeX allows authors and editors to store references in an external database file. Citations within any LaTeX document can then simply reference the external file instead of bundling the reference list at the end of the document(s).
BibTeX is also an accepted import format for such reference managers as Mendeley and Zotero.
HTML webpage
Select the HTML export format to download and save your reference list as an HTML-formatted webpage. Your exported file will include all the information displayed on the Results View from which you are exporting. For example, if you want to export your reference list with the yellow warnings and links, but you do not want to include the tracked changes, review your references in References + Links/Comments view, and then export your reference list from there.
JATS XML
Select the JATS XML export format to download and save your reference list as a JATS XML file. Your exported file is UTF-8 encoded and contains all information in the reference list, including corrections and warnings.
JATS 1.0 (the Journal Article Tag Suite) is the latest version of what was known as the NLM Journal Publishing DTD, an XML DTD that has been widely adopted by a large number of publishers of scholarly journals. It defines XML elements and attributes that describe the content and metadata of journal articles, including bibliographic references. JATS XML does not define the presentational style of the reference; it identifies the semantic meaning of each element of the reference, allowing the reference to be rendered in any style.
MEDLINE
Select the Medline or Medline (UTF-8) export format to download and save your reference list as MEDLINE format. The former export format is ASCII-encoded, while the latter is UTF-8 encoded.
MEDLINE format is a tagged field format that displays all of the fields held in a Medline record for a journal reference. Many reference management tools can accept MEDLINE format as an input.
Note: Because MEDLINE only indexes journal content, only fully structured journal references are exported in MEDLINE format; other reference types and references that have not been fully parsed will not be included in the exported file.
RIS
Select the RIS or RIS (UTF-8) export format to download and save your reference list as RIS format. The former export format is ASCII-encoded, while the latter is UTF-8 encoded.
RIS is a standardized tag format developed by Research Information Systems Inc. to enable citation programs to exchange data. It is supported by most widely used reference management software products. If you intend to import your Edifixed references into reference management software, you should select RIS or No Format as your editorial style when Edifixing your references.
Note: RIS format only supports fully parsed (in other words, fully structured) references. References that have not been parsed and are listed in gray text will not be included in your exported RIS files.
Word document
Select the Word DOC export format to download and save your reference list as an HTML-formatted Word document. Your exported file will include all the information displayed on the Results View from which you are exporting. For example, if you want to export your reference list with the yellow warnings and links, but you don't want to include the tracked changes, review your references in References + Links/Comments view, then export your reference list from there.
Because your downloaded file is HTML-formatted, the document may open in Word’s Web Layout View. You can easily switch to Print View (or your desired view) from Word’s View menu. When you’re ready to save your document, Word may automatically select the HTML file extension instead of a Word document file extension (.doc or .docx). Simply select Word document from the Save as type drop-down menu to save your file as a regular Word document.
